Hush

“The old man loved her, yes he did,
And always done right for her and the kids.”

“She could do better, and should have too,
She deserved so much more than some cow poke fool.”

“They don’t know all that he’s done alone,
Or how hard it is for him to put her in a home.”

“He could take care of her, and look what she got,
She might be sick but should get more than a view of the parking lot.”

“Why don’t they understand that he’d done his best?
He is a good man, always there for his blood and flesh.”

“Her mind been gone for such a long time,
But he still never deserved to call her his wife.”

It’s all circumstance, and none of you could ever know
The courage of a man that he refuses to show.
Stop your guessing as to why his head’s hung
And be there for the man while the birds sing his sad song.
